The Cheat
How did you find the style of writing in the book?
It is different from the traditional style of writing narrative text with each chapter being from the eyes and perspective of one of the books characters.
How do you think you would feel writing a test you know you have cheated on? Would you not care? Be nervous? or other?
Answer both questions.

ReplyDeleteHeeeyyyyy
ReplyDeletethis book was awesome it really talks from diffrent perspective of teens
ReplyDeleteI agree, because the character's voices really show through the text and also has different styles depending on their personalities :D
Deletei agree too, also I like the fact that they made a character who was relatively calm at first, but then began to get nervous

ReplyDeleteThis book seems a bit complicated but I like the way it is presented in different perspectives and instead of chapters there is the views and perspectives of the characters themselves.
ReplyDeleteI agree, because the way the characters have their own chapter to express themselves is unique, and it's different, but a good different

DeleteI think the style of writing of this book is quite interesting. It shows a variety of writing skills that were required to comprehend and write.
ReplyDeleteTo be brutally honest, I would not care if I cheated. If I was caught, I would take what was coming to me. It would be what I deserve.
As well on the second question: I would take my punishment because I did something wrong and I have to pay for it in some way. Also eventually it would eat away at my person and I would eventually cave in, tell, and re-take the test.
DeleteOn the first question: I've never seen this style of writing before so it is quite new to me. I do enjoy it because you get to have a diverse look on the story/event and how it played out for every person involved.
sooo, you are actually considering cheating in the future? :O
DeleteUh, no. I said nothing like that. I simply mean to say that if I were intimidated/pressured into cheating I would feel terrible and take whatever punishment my teacher/principal dished out.
DeleteI think John is saying that if he is willing to cheat he is willing to accept the blame! Are any of the charcaters in the book willing to do the same thing?
DeleteI don't think any of them are willing to accept blame as we've seen how Jake reacted and how Rob and Sarah and Dan reacted. Dan expected that Sarah would rat him out. Sarah wasn't gonna crack and tell, as well as she thought the guys were being spineless, gutless rats.
DeleteRob however was willing to take any punishment the SCHOOL would give him. So, Rob is sort of the same as me. I would definitely not want my old man to be told that I cheated on a major test. He would flip on me and probably a table as well.
@Mr. Cheney: I mean that if I'm going to cheat(I don't think I would willingly unless it was a huge test like Mid-Terms) I'm willing to take the blame. I've honestly only cheated once in my years of primary school and that was on a grade 3 math test.
DeleteAs well, I probably would cheat on Mid-Terms unless I really needed the mark or if I was utterly clueless on the subject. Either way, I would make up for it by studying hard for it. If someone found out and turned me in, I'd be ready to take the test legitimately and hopefully pass.
DeleteWouldn't*
DeleteI thought the book was very intreging especially the way Mr.Cheney read it. The book was very good soo far...and well i hope to hear more tomorrow.Cya People.
ReplyDeletesupp kidss
ReplyDeletethis book was a bit more easier to understand, so that i could get the moral and it relates more to me
ReplyDeleteWhat made it easier to understand how did you think it was different from other books that you have read?
DeleteHow do you think you would feel writing a test you know you have cheated on? Would you not care? Be nervous? or other?
ReplyDeleteI would be very nervous if i cheated on a test considering in universaty (my cuzin told me) that if they catch u cheating they might kick u out of universaty
LOL but from what i know its true you can be kicked out of University for Plaiderism and Cheating.
DeleteWill you have that guilt of cheating on a test shown on your face? Everything you do , anywhere you go that fear of getting caught is shown? You have that fear of getting caught we all would but does it ever seem to you'd rather cheat then to actually study?
DeleteThe first year reading the cheat was complex, the way the characters flip flopped back and forth created nothing but a struggle to continue to be engaged, and to really understand the concepts of each character, their style, and their thoughts. As per reading for the book for the second time it made it easier to really understand who was doing what where when why and how...
ReplyDeleteIs there anything from the book that may have been left out that you might like to have seen?
DeleteSorry, I don't quite understand what you are trying to say can you please explain a more?
DeleteDo you think there are are parts missing that you might like to have known?
DeleteThe different perspectives add an interesting twist to the story that is being presented.I think it is rare to see a story presented in this format.
ReplyDeleteI think the style of tyhe writing in the book was describing each character.
ReplyDeleteif i ever cheated on a test i wouold act like a normal person nd pretend like nothing happneed
Well to be honest i think the style varies slightly.Just because if has different perspectives,it clearly doesnt make a difference to me.Ive read such books, yet the characters are all different. Its a bit hard to comprehend at times, but its a good start.
ReplyDeleteHow do you think you would feel writing a test you know you have cheated on? Would you not care? Be nervous? or other? Well i personally would be very nervous and very paranoid because i would feel very guilty and kinda like Katty i guess. I would always feel like the teacher is behind me about to get me introuble so what i would do is i would confesce and ask for a make up test on the following day or ill try to do what katty was going to do and go at questions in different orders to feel like i did the test Legit with out cheating..(was this long enough)
ReplyDeleteHow would you feel if you knew 3 other students were cheating with you? Would you turn any of them in if you didn't cheat?
DeleteBtw, there never is a long enough or too long blog post.
Also it's spelt Katie.
I wouldn't turn any of them in, honestly xD
DeleteIf they got away with it, might as well not ruin their lives, y'know?
How did you find the style of writing in the book? I like the writing style its different and i like how every character has a say and a view. and in my opoinon it makes the book make more sence.
ReplyDeleteFINALLY GOT A PROFILE PICTURE
ReplyDeleteif you like waffals and if you like frisbees click this
Deletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FUSseiwlLc
Really
DeleteWell really it would feel pretty wired to cheat. And if that did happen i would feel really nervous. It would feel guilty. As well in future life the fact that i cheated will always tell me i cheated my self. I would really be ashamed of myself is the maximum i could say.
ReplyDeletei really like the style of how each chapter is on a different character's perspective. and i really like how each person can say their thinking and their point of view.
ReplyDeletewell its most likely each individual have different thoughts and personalities right. So most likely why they all have different sectors in the book.Exaggerate more on how you feel about the style of the book.Perhaps include past knowledge.Did the characters give you a visual and reflection of who they are,or did you build them alongside of the book?
DeleteOkay, so I get that you like the style, but is it new to you or have you read texts like this before?
DeleteI like how the book is written because of how we know how each character feels and their perspective into the events happening. Also how the character are so different from one and another makes the story more interesting.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree.XD
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteIt doesn't feel weird........and i never said it feel weird lol xD
DeleteI think I'd feel really nervous if I was cheating on a test because what if I get caught? The fear of getting caught would make too scared to cheat and its never right. I think the guilt would bother me because I'd feel like I don't deserve the mark.
ReplyDeleteWould you ever give yourself up? By this I mean, you explain you would be quite nervous, is there was so much guilt in you and no longer could you have this fear so you just go and tell on yourself saying you cheated...isnt that the right thing to do?
DeleteYeah it is the right thing to do because if i had have so much guilt in me might
Deleteas will just tell the teacher and get in trouble for what i did .
I think the styles of writing is very unique and it gives people a chance to get a thought from each person of the book
ReplyDeleteIt also has a lot of people who share the same incident that others do.
I'd be very nervous if i ever cheated on a test. I would be constantly scared of getting caught and probably would back out from cheating on the test.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you like cheating is wrong and you should not cheat on a test because you don't deserve the marks if you had a answer sheet
DeletePriya how does plagrism have anything to do with this? :D
DeletePersonally to me it depends on what test and what is at stake. Although I have never cheated in the sense of answer sheets or anything similar, I will have to admit that I would plagairize many essays and each time I did that, I would learn my lesson through a bad grade. I soon learned to never plagirize.
ReplyDeleteI think the writing represents each character's personality and lets their voice shine through, as if know them, and we are asking them for their opinion. In the beginning, couldn't really tell that Sarah's was a poetry format, and I still can't, I just don't hear it.
ReplyDeleteIn the midst of cheating, I'd feel nervous, but not too nervous. Knowing myself, I'll probably keep thinking about it during the test. In the end though, I'd most likely try to do the same thing as Katie. I knew it was wrong, and I knew I shouldn't have taken the answers, too, so if I got caught, I would be the one to blame. And so, I would try to reverse my mistakes, before it got too late.
Me too. I would probably try to finish the test (while cheating) quickly so i have a lower chance of getting caught. But it would be quite weird if i finished a test really really quickly so i would sit there and do nothing except feel guilty and feel like when i give the test to the teacher the teacher would probably rip the test because the teacher might have noticed that i have cheated.
DeleteI would also "reverse my mistakes" too. Even though if i get caught then the punishment i peronally believe wont be to big but wouldn't want to risk it,
P.s HI!
How did you find the style of writing in the book?
ReplyDeleteThe writing of style in the book isn't like any other book, the fact that instead of chapters each section of the book is about a character and perspective of that character. Also for the fact that Mr.Cheney read the book in a way to make me think that each and every character has its own unique personality and also made me more focused on the book. Now comparing this to the average narrative a narrative has seperate chapters going in a timeline or chronological sequence as where this book doesnt do that and goes character by character starting at different times.
Since you've mentioned how a average narrativ goes in a chronological sequence etc...How would it have impacted your view;if the book slightly changed. In ways such as all the voices of the characters,in one perspective, and visual. How would you feel about the style of writing of the book then?
Deletenarrative*
DeleteWell if the book was told in a single perspective for example from the authors perspective ... well let me put it this way I don't read books that have views from the authors perspective. Mostly I read graphic novels where the characters are speaking. Does this answer your question???
Delete(cuz if it duznt please put more detail in the question)
How do you think you would feel writing a test you know you have cheated on? Would you not care? Be nervous? or other?
ReplyDeleteIf I took a test I know had cheated on I would feel very nervous considering my cousin told me if I cheated in university I have a chance of getting kicked out of the university. Also if I get caught cheating on a test and the principle calls home my parents will never let me out of the house play on my laptop or anything else, I'll be grounded for life!
Well, that's in university. What about cheating now and through middle school?
Deletemiddle school and high school**
Deleteso your more worried about what your parents are going to say kinda like rob?
Deleteyes because my parents are insanely strict i was late one time without my parents knowing they got called and what happened was i got grounded for 3 weeks -_-
DeleteOnce I plagairized an essay in elementary school(about gr.5) and when my teacher found out, he gave me a D- on the essay. Keep in mind that that was elementary school and usually the punishments in middle or high school are worse
Deletethen again i ws stupid at the time and copied the essay word by word all from the same site -_-
If I was writing a test I know I am cheating on I would have been nervous and scared but also act cool and normal like nothing even happened and like I was writing a test normally like everybody else would. I would be scared and nervous because I'm not a very good liar and if I am doing something I shouldn't be doing you can see the guilty look on my face, and that way the teacher would get more suspicious and there wold be more chances of me being caught. And that is why I need to act cool and normal like every on else if I act normal and try to mix up the answers like Katy I'd still be cheating but in a way I also won't be cheating. And I can't lie! I have cheated on a test before, every one has agree or not.
ReplyDeleteso you would be a mix between Rob and Katty?
DeleteWould you ever be the one to begin a cheat-cheat for a test?? You speak of how you did cheat once did someone give you those answers? Or did you take you own 'advice' and cheat?
DeleteYeah I would say I'd be like kaitie the most though.
Deletedoes this mean you will cheat again
DeleteI think the style of writing is very unique. I have never seen a book that has that style of writing from each character's perspective to see they're point of view of the event or events occuring.
ReplyDeletesame here this was my first time read a book like this
DeleteFor the second question I would be nervous because if you are caught, it might get you kicked from school or he suspended. It will permanently effect your reputation with the teacher and/or ruin your life.
ReplyDeleteSince when do you get kicked out of the school or get suspended for cheating? o.O
DeleteIf you also get caught, you might fail the grade and have to do it next year. But if you feel nervous, it's a good thing because you don't want to do it again.
Deletewell not in our grade in university you could get kicked out of the school for cheating or thats what my cousin told me at least -_-
DeleteYou can in serious cases
Deletecan we get kicked out of school for cheating in high school????
Deleteso if your nervous theyll take pity for you because you feel guilty?
DeleteAnd Kevin you are right
DeleteYou probably won't get kicked out of school for cheating although there would be a severe punishment! But it depends on how big of a test you cheated on!
Deletedeandre they 9/10 chance they wont take u pity they will call your parents and have a chance to kick you out of the school
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteExpelled
Deletewell in university cheating is insanely serious and you do have a chance to get kicked out of the school
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteIn high school you fail if you are caught cheating... why would they kick you out? if they did that then about 25% of the students would be gone.
Deletei dont even know if we can get kicked for cheating on a mid term
Deleteafter we read the book we should figure out
In university you get kicked without a refund thousand and thousand
DeleteOopsie, meant that for Muna :O
Delete"In high school you fail if you are caught cheating... why would they kick you out? if they did that then about 25% of the students would be gone"
Deleteheta one thing that you said was in high school suhaib here said
"In university you get kicked without a refund thousand and thousand"
talking about university
none of us know if you can get kicked out of high school
keevins right you cant get kicked out of high school for cheating or like kevin said 25% of the students would be elimanated.
DeleteLOL I DIDNT SAY THAT HETA DID
DeleteNot just cheating, cheating on a midterm exam.
DeleteNo we can't really get kicked out of high school because I know someone that was caught cheating on their exams this year and they had a 90% mark in that subject when she got her report card she thought it would say 0 because she got caught cheating but instead her mark only decreased till 78% so there is a very less chance of you getting kicked out of high school for cheating.
Deletecan anyone tell me the difference between a midterm and a unit test
Deleteand why midterm seems to be more important than the average unit test?
you can get expelled in very serious cases from high school but usually when that happens they will send you to another school designed for troublemakers
Deleteyeah but whats the difference between a
Deletemidterm and a unit test
and why is midterm more important
a mid term is much more importaant because it counts more for your grade and it tests yyour knowledge through half of the term(thats why it is called MID-tterm
DeleteOh (well that was kinda obvious)
DeleteTo Kevin
DeleteMidterms are for your report cards. It takes everything you learned and makes a test. A unit test is a test to see if you learned the topic properly. And usually it's for elementary and middle school
is there differernt types of midterms like for math and language?
Deletebut can you loss your collage degrre if you get caught cheating
Deletetime to google this.
Delete(at)rajveer : are you serious about losing collage degrees if caught cheating?
Delete"They would most certainly punish you for cheating, and possibly kick you out seeing as it was such an important exam. " -http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110117125949AAFMW5Q
Deletethere you go.
Even though the book is a narrative, I think it has a different style to its writing. It gives a chapter to each character to talk from his/her point of view on the same event instead of the how usual stories have a narrative talking and a few dialogues from characters.
ReplyDeleteI agree, however, I think this book is written in 1st person POV, rather than narrative, because narrative usually means 3rd person POV, and this book is written in the eyes of the characters. Juss saiyan :P
Deletewhat is "POV"
DeletePoint of View
Delete^-^
DeleteYour welcome
Actually all I meant was that in all the books I've read, I've heard narraters talkings and a few dialogues are often put in. (sorry, didn't mean narratives)
Deletethanks suhaib :D
Delete"POV" Stands for "Point Of View".
DeleteThere's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
I don't really understand 2nd, but think of it like stories and stuff.
Here's an example, since I'm not good at explaining xD
So there's a fight going on between 2 people. Let's say, the 2nd person punches the 1st person because he/she taunted them
1st POV is the story through the first person's eyes. he/she would probably think :"He started it and punched me first!"
2md POV is the story through the second person's eyes. They'd say: "Hey, he started it, he/she was making me mad."
and finally, 3rd POV is when a bystander, watching things play out on the side, explains what happened in his/her eyes, or what really happened. Like a narrarator. At least that's what i think... might not bee 100% sure, though
thanks linda :D
Deletea 3rd POV is when a bystander or a random person is spectating what is happening between 2 people but really all the 3rd POV is there for is proof/evidence of a student phisically interacting with an other.(and it makes for a good fight or a good scene in a movie)
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
Deletekushi was this book easier to understand than a novel
Deletedeandre your right
I'm actually not a hundred percent sure to what exact reaction I might have to getting caught cheating since I didn't find myself in that spot but because of that I know I wouldn't be able to handle it due to how scared I'd . Maybe that's the reason I never dared to cheat (since if teachers catch you, it would be a really bad impression).
ReplyDeleteSo would you give up or would you take the risk?
DeleteWhat if you were roped into it? How would you react? What would you do???
Deletemost probably I'd give up unless maybe for a hundred percent I knew I couldn't pass the test. And that still stays as a maybe since I often find it too hard to fight my fear.
Deleteso what if you fight your fear how would you feel nervous or don't care
DeleteHey, NEVAH GIVE UP! If you're in the middle of cheating,Worst case scenario, you'll get a 60%, I mean, it's not like you haven't been paying attention through the whole year. I think it's best to face your fear, because when you conquer it, you'll be stronger :P
DeleteFirst of all, I'd take every possible chance to get out of it so I probably wouldn't be roped in, and if by chance I was, I'd maybe talk it out with a teacher or maybe rely on my luck for once and try to fight my fear (if I find it possible).
DeleteWhat if you were peer pressured into cheating? What would have you done now, knowing that you have cheated? I understand that you would have still been scared . But, now that you have done it you were somehow going to have to manage
DeleteSo basically if u do cheat khushi you would not take the blame and try to escape without anyone knowing?
DeleteKhushi TailorJuly 5, 2013 at 6:36 AM
DeleteFirst of all, I'd take every possible chance to get out of it so I probably wouldn't be roped in
and that make my point
I really don't know cause I haven't been able to conquer my fear uptil now and if maybe I do, isn't my fear being nervous? (srushti) But it's not like I'd be totally cool and not care a bit.
Deletewait wait hold on here you said u wanted to rope yourself out of cheating so what is your fear being nervous or cheating????
Delete100% agreed
DeleteIf I was pushed in by my peers, at the end I really might just have to have faith on my luck and wish things work out for once - cause I alreasy know talking it out with a teacher sfter wou;d make it worse.
DeleteA fear of being caught while cheating???? Well when you look at it there are more chances of people getting caught while cheating then getting away with it
Deletewait wait hold on here you said u wanted to rope yourself out of cheating so what is your fear being nervous or cheating????
Deletethe style of writing was exclusive from other novels mostly have it from the perspective 6 characters. this shows how students go through high school. in this book it talked exactly how a high school students talk. in other stories like charlie bone, it is from a kid who goes to a fantasy school, it talks about how he thinks of this school, but in this it is only from charlie's perspective, but unlike the cheat it is the main character who's talking
ReplyDeleteand it provides a point of view from all the sides so i cant say that one of them innocent just because i heard from them.
Deletethe book doesnt nessasarilly show how teens move through high school but shows how some teens would rather cheat and possibly get caught then just write the test(sorry if this makes no sence)
DeleteI like how you used reference from another book to make a connection to "The Cheat".I agree with your point. It is exclusive and differs from other books.
Deletetest
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
Deletethe writing style of this book isn't like most of he books we read instead of chapter each section is about a different character or perspective and the way Mr Cheney reading the book makes it more interesting and you get to know how each character thinks or speaks.every character has its own unique personality and that attracts your focus on the book.so far i think the book is great and is really interesting.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I am really sucked into this book right now, because of the way Mr.Cheney reads it! He makes it interesting, and puts emotion into the dialogue, too. I like how instead of making chapters, he just switched point of views, for all we know, the book could've been one chapter.
Deletehave you ever read a book like the cheat
DeleteNo, and since it's my first time, all the more interesting, no? How 'bout you?
DeleteI agree too. This books writing style makes the book more interesting. The Cheat is awesome!!!! :)
DeleteThe style of the book does make the book more fun to read and i never read a book like this one So it my first time too
Deletei would be so nervous if i ever cheat on a test i will be scared, if i ever get caught my dad would kill me. and if i cheat i putting every thing at risk, my degree and diploma scary thought
ReplyDeleteSo knowing that your dads going to be mad and your diploma and degree are at risk would you still try to cheat?
DeleteI find the style of this book really interesting because there is a low amount of books that have personal responses. I really like the way how each character has their own say. when I hear one response I would start thinking the person is innocent, but when there are lot of responses and point of views i would find out the different perspectives. than there is not every one to blame. at last we would come down to why the cheated? who was the person who started it? how did they feel about this experience of cheating and why shouldn't they do it ever again? and how was their reaction of cheating themselves?
ReplyDeletewho ever you thought was innocent at first do still think it is there fault
DeleteWhen you continue reading this book, do you think your perspectives on the characters will change?
Deletetest Rebecca
ReplyDeleteI found the style intresting and new cause i have never seen a story where the charcters are talking about there own perspective and how there is someone to blame and how it wasnt there fault.I also think that the story is more intresting hearing it from others charcter perspective because to know what they are like kind of gets you to know the charcters better.
